Renewable Energy Nationwide:Technology / Economics

Ethanol

The U.S. ethanol fuel industry is booming. It took 10 years for industry to produce a billion gallons per year. It took 10 more years to increase production to 2 billion gallons per year. Yet last year’s production increased to 5 billion gallons annually. This is a testament to the will and dedication of responsive growers who are sparking capital investment, economic development and job creation in their communities.  More about Ethanol

Wind Energy

Wind power works well with farms because wind turbines need only a small area of land, can operate alongside everyday farming operations and can provide farmers with lucrative royalties or rent payments. Wind power is an affordable, efficient and inexhaustible source of electricity. It is pollution-free, and thanks to technological breakthroughs, it's cost competitive with new coal- or gas-fired power plants. And business is booming.

Biogas Energy

Farms all over America have the opportunity to produce their own electricity from animal feedlot operations and reduce environmental problems that stem from the animal waste: by installing biogas digesters on site. Biogas is produced when manure decomposes anaerobically (without the presence of oxygen). Methane makes up about 60-70% of that biogas, and it can be used as a clean burning fuel. Biodigester systems collect manure, capture the gas and burn it to produce electricity. The electricity can be used to run farm operations and the collected waste is prevents water contaminations, odor pollution and greenhouse gases from reaching the atmosphere.  More about Biogas Energy
